there are so many trans people who end up ending it all just like the protagonist of this song because they don’t have anyone to turn to who would accept or even listen to them, and they feel that they’ll never become who they really are because they’re trapped by circumstance. i’ve felt that on more than one occasion - it’s a pain every trans person understands intimately. much of my friend group is trans (including myself), and since my early teenage years i’ve had several life-or-death situations with my friends. we made it through the worst of it together and became better people and closer friends for it. if you’re struggling, connect with other trans people either online or in your local community. you don’t have to go through the struggle of finding footing as a trans person alone. i don’t know if anybody will read this, but to any trans person out there who is, i just want you to know that i’m proud of you for existing and making it through every day despite what we have to survive through all across the globe. remember you aren’t alone. we’re all in this together. 🏳️‍⚧️

Today, I lost my best friend. He was born with a disease that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Despite all of this, he was the best friend anyone could have asked for. He never failed to put a smile on my face, whether it was with a laugh or a long heart-to-heart conversation about the pitfalls of life. I not only lost a best friend, but I lost a brother and soulmate. I always knew the day would come when I had to say goodbye due to his disease. So, I would listen to this song sometimes because it was one of his favorite songs, and because it's everything that I feel about him. I really don't understand why they don't play this song live. They just abandoned their older funk albums in the last 10 years. But I still find some older songs like this one would fit into their pop sound. Really a shame.
